Watch my Interview with Mr. Opeyemi Ogungbo, Special Adviser on Revenue & Taxation to the Lagos State Governor
On the latest episode of "Let's Talk with Jermaine Sanwo-Olu," I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Opeyemi Ogungbo, the Special Adviser on Revenue & Taxation to the Lagos State Governor. We delved into the innovative strides Lagos State is making to enhance revenue collection and provide better services to its citizens, both at home and in the diaspora.
Introducing the Lagos Revenue Portal: A Game Changer for All Lagosians
Mr. Ogungbo discussed the launch of the new Lagos Revenue Portal, a groundbreaking initiative designed to simplify how residents and non-residents manage their tax payments and financial obligations to the state.
The portal, accessible at Revenue.LagosState.gov.ng, is a one-stop platform where users can pay all their bills online. Whether it's property taxes, business levies, or other state fees, the platform ensures a seamless experience for all.
One of the standout features of the portal is its inclusivity, especially for Lagosians living abroad. According to Mr. Ogungbo, the portal was developed with the diaspora in mind, accommodating payments in foreign exchange (forex). This feature allows Lagosians abroad to pay bills on behalf of their dependents or conduct other transactions just as easily as those living in Lagos. "We wanted to create a platform that mirrors the experience of living in Lagos, even for those thousands of miles away," Mr. Ogungbo shared.
The Eko Revenue Plus Summit: Unlocking New Revenue Streams for Lagos
During our conversation, Mr. Ogungbo also highlighted the upcoming Eko Revenue Plus Summit, themed "Unlocking New Revenue Streams in Lagos." Scheduled to take place at EkoRevenuePlusSummit.com, this summit will bring together thought leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to explore innovative ways of expanding Lagos State's revenue base.
The summit aims to address the challenges and opportunities in revenue generation, focusing on leveraging technology, fostering public-private partnerships, and enhancing financial inclusivity.
"Our goal is to ensure that every resident and stakeholder can contribute to and benefit from Lagos State’s growth, regardless of where they are," Mr. Ogungbo emphasized.
Why These Initiatives Matter
These initiatives are not just about increasing revenue; they are about creating a more transparent, efficient, and inclusive Lagos. The Lagos Revenue Portal ensures that everyone, from local residents to Lagosians in the diaspora, can contribute to the state's development effortlessly. At the same time, the Eko Revenue Plus Summit is set to pave the way for innovative solutions and partnerships that will drive sustainable growth.
